September 8 to Octobre 21, 2017
At Atelier Circulaire Gallery (#105)
Opening reception: September 8th, starting on 5.30 pm

Atelier Circulaire presents Fantástica México by artist Arthur Desmarteaux. Immerse yourself in the exuberant and abundant universe of this audiovisual panorama, composed of animated dioramas of the City of Mexico created by this multidisciplinary artist. It is an exhibition not to be missed, the opening of which will take place in the presence of the artist as part of the great festive return of Pôle de Gaspé (5445-5455 de Gaspé ave, MTL) on Friday, September 8th, 5:30 p.m.  The exhibition will continue until October 21st.

The immersive and playful installation Fantástica México takes us into an imaginary and miniature landscape of the city. This dense photomontage created from digital prints and mounted in the form of dioramas is animated by video-mapping projections producing a set of shadows, with the soundscape of the streets of Mexico City. It offers a hallucinating and singular point of view of this exceptional and fascinating megalopolis.

Inspired by the photographic work of Ed Rusha Every Building on the Sunset Strip (1966), he offers a concentrated portrait of his vision of Mexico’s essence, enabling us to grasp its greatness and dynamism. His work presents this urban landscape in a continuous but fragmented way, confronting us with the impossibility of having a global and unified vision of the city. Arthur Desmarteaux makes us reflect on the conditions of life possible in the heart of a metropolis that he represents in a hostile and almost monstrous way. It is the dreamlike composition of digital memories extracted from a transitory urban space, compact and loaded with excesses.

Arthur Desmarteaux holds a degree in Visual and Media Arts from Université de Montréal and UQÀM and is currently completing a Master's Degree in Visual Arts at Concordia University in Montreal. He recently presented his work at Galerie d'Outremont, Maison de la culture in Longueuil (Le Temple des Glorieux, 2015), Musée d'art contemporain de Saint-Jérôme, and in several galleries across the country and abroad. In the fall of 2011, he edited a shadow play in collaboration with Allison Moore at Atelier Megalo (Sydney, Australia). In public art, he created a large mosaic for the Pointe-aux-Trembles Borough Library in collaboration with Allison Moore.

Opening of the Gallery: Tuesday to Saturday, from noon to 5 pm (nocturne on Thursdays until 7 pm).
Underground parking: $5 Saturday all day and on weekdays after 6 pm.
